Take an interest in the properties of different objects. Ask your child how properties can be affected by change. For instance, is the kitchen counter smooth and dry all the time? Compare similarities and differences in the properties of materials. Make a book of properties based on experiences and conversations.

Investigate the properties of water. Try checking water levels in a glass, in the local pool, or at a particular spot on the lake several time a week. How might those levels change and why?
